The Thursday Thread: What is the most important aspect of a pricing metric?

The Thursday Thread

One question from us, once a week. Share your take

We want to hear…

What is the most important aspect of a pricing metric?

  • Easy to understand?
  • Aligned with customer value?
  • Grows with the customer?

Ideally, its all 3, but if you’re forced to make a tradeoff, which would you prioritize?

Or is there another aspect that you consider more important?

I’d choose aligned with customer value. If you do that one right, the other two fall into place naturally.

Think I’d agree! The other two feel like prerequisites to be truiy aligned with customer value.

If I had to choose just one, I’d prioritize alignment with customer value.

Without value alignment, the other two, simplicity and scalability, break down. A metric that’s easy to explain but misaligned with how customers derive value will lead to churn or mistrust. And one that grows with the customer but doesn’t reflect value? That’s a recipe for expansion friction and pricing pushback.

Understanding where value alignment lies, especially across different segments, not only informs your pricing metric but also shapes your packaging. And packaging is the lever that connects pricing to messaging, positioning, and scale.

Start with value, and iterate from there. Clarity and growth will follow.
